1810 Census Data Maryland

	Their are now three Isaac's listed in Maryland
	The Isaac in Annemessex in 1810 is between 26 and 44 as is his spouse meaning he is of the right age to be (Isaac b. 11 SEP 1765 Somerset Co. Parish REGISTER) son of Stephen (b. 1720-30 m. 5 Nov 1746 Sarah Matthews - Somerset Co. Parish REGISTER) son of  John (b. c1673 Somerset Co. Md. w.d. 22 Aug 1747 p. 25 Oct 1751 Somerset Co. Md. wife Ann)
	The Isaac's in Pocomoke and Broad Creek are both too old to be (Isaac b. 11 SEP 1765 Somerset Co. Parish REGISTER) son of Stephen (b. 1720-30 m. 5 Nov 1746 Sarah Matthews - Somerset Co. Parish REGISTER) son of  John (b. c1673 Somerset Co. Md. w.d. 22 Aug 1747 p. 25 Oct 1751 Somerset Co. Md. wife Ann)

             The following Riggin are found living next to each other in Little Annemessex in 1810 census data.

	The above Isaac is most likely (Isaac b. 11 SEP 1765 Somerset Co. Parish REGISTER) son of Stephen (b. 1720-30 m. 5 Nov 1746 Sarah Matthews - Somerset Co. Parish REGISTER) son of  John (b. c1673 Somerset Co. Md. w.d. 22 Aug 1747 p. 25 Oct 1751 Somerset Co. Md. wife Ann)
	Isaac would have to have been born 1765-1775 if we combined the age bracket data using 1810 census data from MD & 1820 census data from Poquoson .
	The Levi living next to him would be his brother.  The William is most likely his uncle.

In 1820 the following would be the age ranges of the children of the Isaac’s shown above in the MD 1810 census data:

Pocomoke would have two boys 10-20 and three girls 10-20 and one 20-25 plus any 0-9 neither the girls nor boys match the 1820 pattern. 

Little Annemessex would have one boy 10-20 and three girls 10-20 plus any 0-9 this pattern matches the Isaac Riggin who moved to Poquoson, Virginia. [he would be 44 based on birth date 11 Sep 1765 if 1810 MD census was taken prior to 45 birthday in Sep.  Ellen would be age 32]

Broad Creek Hundred would have two boys 10-20 and two more 26-35 and 2 girls 10-20 and two more girls 20-35 neither the girls nor boys match the 1820 pattern.  ( Most likely b. 9 APR 1760; son of Charles Riggen m. 2ND Nancy Hearn)

	By comparing children between 1810 MD census and York County VA census 1820 it appears that the Isaac of Little Annemessex must have been the one who moved to York Co. VA.
	Since young Isaac was born in Maryland in 1818 (ref: age 32 in 1850 census) the family moved to poquoson between 1818 and 1820.

All of the above census data indicates the Isaac Riggin who moved to Poquoson Virginia between 1818 and 1820 was (Isaac Riggin b. 11 SEP 1765 Somerset Co. Parish REGISTER) son of Stephen (b. 1720-30 m. 5 Nov 1746 Sarah Matthews - Somerset Co. Parish REGISTER) son of  John (b. c1673 Somerset Co. Md. w.d. 22 Aug 1747 p. 25 Oct 1751 Somerset Co. Md. wife Ann)

	Two males 0-9 (Isaac age 4 and m. circa 1848 Elizabeth Topping] & [William age 9 m. 9 Dec 1831 Sarah Phillips)

	One male   45>  (Isaac himself born <1775 Manufacturing) [he would be 55]
	One female 0-9 [Sarah age 9 (called Sally) b. 12 Dec 1811 d. 4 Sep 1884 m. 19 Jul 1836 William Thomas]
	Two females 10-15 [Elizabeth age 13 (called Eliza by family m. 23 May 1825 Richard Callis) & Elizabeth Ann age 11 b. 3 Apr 1809(called Ann) m. 28 Feb 1828 Robinson Phillips]

	One female 26-44 (Ellen AKA: Nellie, Elinor?  - therefore born between 1776-1794) [b. 1778 she would be 42 ref: 1860 census age 82]

I suspect this Isaac (the patriarch) died between 1820 and 1830 ( age would be 55-65) .  In later census data both sons Isaac and William list their place of birth as Maryland. Since Isaac (son of Isaac) was born in 1818 (ref: 1850 census age 32) they must have moved to Poquoson from Maryland between 1818 and 1820.

Deed 15 Apr. 1820 John Harwood, Sr. and his wife Martha Tabb Harwood sell 81 acres to Isaac Riggin.

1830 Census Data York Co. Virginia

William Riggins is listed.  The household has a total of four persons residing there.

	One male age 10-15 (Isaac William's little brother)
	One Male age 20-30 (William himself)
	One female 15-20 (William's sister Sarah)
	One female 40-50 (Ellen AKA: Nellie; William's mother - therefore born between 1780-1790 again close to b. 1778)

 

	One son who should be age 10-20 is missing.  Perhaps a young death?
	One female who would have been probably born between 1795 - 1804 is missing. Perhaps a young death?
	The Elizabeth & Ann are now married and on their own.
	Next door neighbor is shown as Robinson Phillips.  (He also married the girl next door Elizabeth Ann Riggins)
	William is a single head of household at this time and the younger children are siblings and the older female his mother Ellen.

1831 Marriage Record

9 December 1831 Sarah Phillips to William Riggins (York County, Va Marriages Vol. 1 Bonds & Minister's Returns 1769-1853) Sarah is daughter of Robinson Phillips; so William literally married the girl next door.

1840 Census Data York Co. Virginia

William Riggin is listed as head of household.  Also listed beside him in census data is Isaac Riggin (his brother) as head of another household.

It appears that Isaac II  is now living with their mother beside William.  There are only two members of that household.

	One female age 40-49 (Ellen - AKA Nellie, Elinor - his mother)

1850 Census York Co. Virginia

Can find no trace of William or his household in the 1850 York County census data after several sweeps.  Isaac Riggin is listed and lives next door to Robinson and Elizabeth Phillips.

William Riggins is listed living next door to Isaac Riggins with Hopkins families living on each side of them.  Nearby is Elen (Lawson) Riggins their mother age 82 born in Maryland therefore born 1778.  There is also a Charlotte Riggins age 22 shown as living in the household of Parker Topping with occupation of domestic.  I can find no other record of her either before or after the 1860 census.

William’s Household:

 

	William's age appears to be wrong in the 1860 census he should be 49.
	Sarah must have passed between 1860 and 1864 since William H. in 1870 census is shown as being a son of Charlotte (William's second wife) and is age six he was born 1864.

William's age appears to be wrong in the 1870 census he should be 60.

William is not shown in the census data and Charlote shows as widowed therefore. William is deceased.  William Riggins headstone was located at Emmaus Baptist Church, Poquoson Virginia.  New information indicates that William's headstone along with others were relocated to Emmaus c. 1997-1998.  It is located in what appears to be a Riggins family plot which is older than the remainder of the church's cemetery.  These headstones all point in the opposite direction of all the numerous other headstones in the cemetery.  Note there are two unmarked stones to the left of William and four headstones all of which are children of Daniel Webster Riggins and his wife Margaret Ann.
